Introduction: The rampant circulation of illegal cosmetics in the community poses serious risks to consumers aswell as violates consumer protection rights. This condition is triggered by low consumer awarness and weak supervision of cosmetic products in wide circulation. Based on these problem, this study aims to identify and analyze the forms of protection and supervision of cosmetics implemented by the Food and Drug Supervision Center in the city of hammer. In analyzing this problem, this researcher uses the theory of supervision from S.F Marbun which includes two main indicators, namely preventive supervision and repressive supervision.
Methods: This research uses qualitative methods with a descriptive appoarch.Data collection techniques werw carried out trought observation, interviews with five informants selected purposively consisting of Palu Pom Center officers, business actors, and cosmetic user, as well as documentation in the form of the Pom Center supervision and secondary data related to cosmetic regulations.
Result: The result of this study show that preventive supervision carried out by the Pom Center in Palu City includes socialization activites to the community, coordination with various related sectors, and implementation of relavant policies. On the other hand, repressive supervision is realized through confiscation of illegal cosmetic products and law enforcement efforts against violators. However, the effectiveness of this supervision is hampered by several main factors, namely the lack of support in law enforcement and the low level of consumer awarness, especially in identifying and avoiding the circulation of dangerous cosmetics.
Conclusion: This research is expected to be a strategic input for policy makers in designing a more effective cosmetics control system, both at the local and national levels.
