Political Dynamics of the Dismissal of the Village Head of Petak in Nuhon District, Banggai Regency in 2024

This study aims to analyze the political dynamics in the dismissal process of the Head of Petak Village in Nuhon Sub-District, Banggai Regency, in 2024. The dismissal process sparked controversy as it was considered not fully in accordance with legal procedures and democratic principles. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach using purposive sampling of seven informants, consisting of the former village head, village secretary, members of the Village Consultative Body (BPD), the PMD office, Nuhon sub-district police, an action coordinator, and community members. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Keith Graham’s (1986) theory of democracy, which emphasizes the principles of equality, freedom, and popular sovereignty. The findings indicate that the principle of equality was not optimally implemented, as the dismissal process was carried out quickly, lacked transparency, and involved minimal participation from village government officials during the clarification stage. The principle of freedom was also not fully achieved, as the opportunities for clarification and expression of opinions were limited, creating perceptions of political pressure. Meanwhile, the principle of popular sovereignty was not fulfilled, as the community was not involved through deliberative forums, and public aspirations along with DPRD recommendations were not used as the primary basis for decision-making. Overall, the dismissal process of the Head of Petak Village did not substantively reflect democratic principles and revealed the strong influence of local political dynamics.
