Abstract

Introduction: The level of women's representation in the legislature is often faced with various structural and cultural challenges. Despite affirmation quotas and various awareness campaigns, women's representation in the political arena, especially at the regional level, is still not optimal. This phenomenon is even more interesting when faced with the case of a woman being elected amidst male dominance and the strong influence of non-gender factors. As happened in election (Dapil) 3 Pasangkayu Regency, where Darsia Iwan was the only woman who managed to win a legislative seat in the 2024 legislative election in Pasangkayu Regency.

Methods: The type of research used is a case study with a qualitative approach. The data collection methods applied include interviews, participant observation, document analysis. The informants of this study include Village Heads, Community Leaders, Novice Voters, and Success Teams.

Results: This study shows that Darsia Iwan's election was influenced by several factors, namely Darsia Iwan's tribal background, having a large family base, Darsia Iwan's husband as the village head, modality support, and the support of the Golkar party as the party supporting the incumbent regent.

Conclusion: The dominant factors for Darsia Iwan's election as a member of the Pasangkayu Regency DPRD for 2024-2029 are the dominance of the Mandar tribe in the election, the strength of Darsia Iwan's social and economic capital, and the oligarchic practices in Pasangkayu that are profitable for Darsia Iwan.
