Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of determining adolescents' knowledge of disaster mitigation in Lere Village, West Palu District. In this study, the author used a qualitative research method with research procedures described descriptively. In relation to this, a methodological process was undertaken consisting of literature research and field research comprising observation, interviews, and documentation. Six informants were selected for this study using purposive sampling, consisting of the Head of Disaster Management for the City of Palu, the Secretary of Lere Village, and adolescents living in Lere Village. Based on the data findings in the field after the research was conducted, then analyzed and answered the research problems and related to the theory of knowledge proposed by Karl Mannheim, the results of the study showed that among the youth in Lere Village, there were those who understood and those who did not understand disaster mitigation. The reason for the lack of understanding among teenagers is due to a lack of education in schools and families about disaster mitigation. Teenagers who understand natural disaster mitigation know what to do before, during, and after a disaster. This knowledge of disaster mitigation was acquired by teenagers after the earthquake and tsunami on September 28, 2018.
