Abstract

This article aims to explain how innovation in the context of village governance is one of the means of driving towards village independence. Several studies that have been conducted focus on the perspective of government innovation that emphasises the important role of actors, namely the village head and his apparatus, as a condition behind the birth and success of a public innovation at the village level. However, there are still few studies that attempt to see how innovations made by village governments are part of efforts to realise village independence towards political sovereignty. This article looks at the real contribution of the Masaran Komplit innovation in Masaran Village, which won the category of government service innovation in the Soetran Awards of Trenggalek Regency, as part of the long road to realising village independence. Although the independence and welfare of the village community is not a phase that can be obtained in an instant, but the innovative steps of the village government that managed to capture the real problems in the community to find a way out is a leap of thought that is needed for the future of village independence.
