Abstract
This research aims to see the social division in the community based on clans (clans) in the 2015 Pohan Jae village head election. The problem in this study is that the people of Pohan Jae village still vote based on clans. Differences in clans make people divided based on clan ties (clans) in choosing candidates for village heads. Pohan Jae Village is one of the villages in North Tapanuli. The majority of the villagers are Toba Batak tribes consisting of the Simajuntak, Panjaitan, Napitupulu, Nadapdap, Purba, Pardede and Galingging clans. The Toba Batak tribe is known to have strong primordial ties, so in village head elections clans (clans) play an important role in attracting voters. In the 2015 village head election, there were two candidates for village head who contested, namely B.Panjaitan and T.Simanjuntak. The village head candidates come from two different clans but are still within the same scope, namely Batak Toba. This clan difference is allegedly a factor causing social division in society based on clans. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. Data collection was done by interview and literature study. Data analysis is done by triangulation. The results of the study were that the Pohan Jae village community was divided based on clan segmentation in the 2015 village head election. This social division occurred because the two candidates for village head who competed came from the same ethnicity, namely Toba Batak.
