One of the sources is tax – value-added tax. Its acknowledged merits as an additional source of generating revenues for the government notwithstanding, VAT in Nigeria is fraught with difficulties. Given the foregoing, the study examined the associated issues with Nigeria's governance system and value-added tax administration. The study relies on the authors' observation of the events surrounding the VAT administration in Nigeria. Secondary data are sourced from the government's official documents, academic journals, textbooks, newspapers, magazines, and internet sources. The study showed that VAT, was introduced to get additional revenues to solve the problem of delivery of services, and the VAT transfer to the state government has a positive relationship with social development, while that of the local level does not. The study further revealed issues, of contentions surrounding VAT including - the constitutionality of the Federal Government to oversee the collection of VAT; and unfair disbursement of the proceeds from VAT to the component units of the federation. Furthermore, the study showed that the governance system of Nigeria has created an avenue whereby the VAT collection right, which normally should be an economic dispute, is tainted with politics and generates inter-ethnic issues. The study concluded that the value-added tax question is a pointer to the fact that Nigeria's fiscal federalism is problematic and, if not well-handled, can further polarize the country along different divides and impede its development.
Adeleke Adegbami Oluwasesan Akanni Nofiu Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Public Administration and Government 2023-12-23 2023-12-23 5 3 305 313 10.22487/jpag.v5i3.1128 Evaluation of The Tangerang Smart Program at State Junior High School 17 Tangerang in 2022 https://jurnal.fisip.untad.ac.id/index.php/JPAG/article/view/835
This study aims to provide input and evaluate the implementation of the Smart Tangerang Program, which offers tuition assistance to underprivileged students in Tangerang City. To reduce the number of school dropouts and prevent vulnerable children from discontinuing their education, the government has an obligation to provide free and quality education for all citizens, as mandated by the constitution. Consequently, the Tangerang City Government initiated the Smart Tangerang Program to enhance educational access for the less fortunate. However, previous studies have indicated challenges in implementing similar programs in other regions. Therefore, this research was conducted to find solutions and enhance the effectiveness of the Smart Tangerang Program. The Evaluation Model Countenance Stake, which encompasses three stages in an education program—context/planning, process/implementation, and outcome/output—was employed in this study. Data were collected through interviews with stakeholders involved in the Smart Tangerang Program's implementation, with the study's focus on SMP Negeri 17 Kota Tangerang. The research results are anticipated to provide valuable input and evaluation for refining the program further.
Neneng Sri Rahayu Aini Timur Marlinda Erfanti Reza Pirgianta Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Public Administration and Government 2023-12-24 2023-12-24 5 3 314 324 10.22487/jpag.v5i3.835 Empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises in South Sulawesi through Participatory Economic Transformation (Case Study: Makassar City) https://jurnal.fisip.untad.ac.id/index.php/JPAG/article/view/918
The city of Makassar is considered one of the attractive and promising cities for the development of trade in goods and services. Empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and the tourism sector in Makassar significantly influences the improvement of the economy, both at the individual and overall levels. This research aims to determine the role of small and medium-sized enterprises in grassroots economic development. In this study, the researcher focuses on variables such as labor absorption, business capital, and the level of business profit obtained by MSMEs, which are independent variables influencing community welfare. The results of this research, using the SPSS approach, have provided statistical test results indicating that all three variables positively and significantly influence community welfare (Y). These variables include labor absorption (X1) with a coefficient of b1 = 2.019, followed by business capital (X2) with a coefficient of b2 = 2.546, and the third variable, business profit (X3), with a coefficient of b3 = 3.024. In the partial test (F), the labor absorption variable (X1) is the most dominant, followed by the business capital variable (X2) and the business profit variable (X3), each influencing the level of community welfare (Y). For the partial and simultaneous tests using the SPSS system, there is an influence of these three variables on community welfare, assuming that other variables remain constant.
Hasanuddin Remmang Hernita Sitti Mujahida Baharuddin Askari Hasanuddin Arnas Hasanuddin Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Public Administration and Government 2023-12-25 2023-12-25 5 3 325 338 10.22487/jpag.v5i3.918 Implementation of Asset Management Policy for the Parliament Office Area in Donggala Regency https://jurnal.fisip.untad.ac.id/index.php/JPAG/article/view/1063
This study aims to determine the Implementation of Regional Asset Management Policies at the Office of the House of Representatives of Donggala Regency.
